The Venue: DECC The reason why we chose the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center for the Live Green Expo is because of there green business practices. The DECC has been recognized as the second most “green” convention center in the country. They recycle in all departments, donate surplus food to the Second Harvest Food Bank, compost food waste, use recyclable or compostable packaging, decrease fossil fuels by heating and cooling with waste steam, purchase locally as much as possible and use cleaning products that do not diminish air quality. Food waste. A donation will be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank to offset the food waste generated from our event. Offsetting carbon. We are very happy to donate on the local, national and international level to tree planting organizations to offset the carbon dioxide emissions brought on by traveling to our event. Planting trees are a wonderful way to offset carbon dioxide, but we would also like to convey the importance of overall energy level reduction by the individual: change out old light bulbs to energy saving ones, less trips in the car and the gas pump, turn off and unplug lights and electrical appliances when not in use and think of how your actions could impact the planet we all share. All of the advertising material, Expo banners and admission tickets printed for this event has been printed on only 100% post consumer recycled paper with soy ink. |
